Earlier in the week some of the Bournification of the Outsider project leaked out, after the project was mothballed in January. I worked on this project while at Frontier for 3+ years and it was pretty close to release as sources have said. I was personally responsible for the road system, a large area of the externals and some smaller internal levels. David Brabern has written an article on the leak and explaining the future of the company and the hope to resurrect the title in the future. It also shows the leaked video at the bottom of the page so enjoy all the hard work the other developers and I put in.
I have been asked for the code for the prototype below made in Unity. I have extended it somewhat but the base code plus a few tweaks (like re spawn if you fall) can be found here
Hi, I am looking a bit more into using Unity for prototyping and development. I have quite a bit of experience using UDK and the Unreal Engine and also bespoke engines to develop for. Unity seems pretty user friendly but uses more traditional code/script than UDK which has the Kismet system.
However for an afternoons worth of work I was able to turn out a reasonably interesting prototype of a plaformer with basic character control and double jump ‘feature’
Not exactly perfect and more a example than a tutorial. AI will react to being shot or the player standing in its field of view. You can lose the AI by hiding sufficiently and eventually he will get ‘bored’ and retreat to a safe position. If you kill an AI a new one will spawn up to the limit of 4. Anyone got any advice on the ‘Obj_UTPlayerController_0′ error that fires when he is in combat or blindfiring please let me know at webmaster at then my domain name. everything else works and it seems to be a warning only.
This is an afternoons worth of work using Unreal UDK and the features of Kismet and Matinee to build a reasonably robust section of gameplay that checks for the players death to reset key actions within the level.
I decided to try to add my Xbox gamercard back to my blog but it seems that MGC is no more so I am now getting them generated by Zaam. Its great that he is helping out as I am sure me and all the other ex-MGC people are chewing his bandwidth.
So thanks Zaam for you service. He is doing a run for Autism so feel free to donate.
I have added new video tutorials in the Articles section about exporting UDK models and importing to UDK. And how to add Collision meshes to these models. I have also added a new Projects area that includes video samples (mostly) of my professional and personal games projects.
I have also updated the layout visually, and fix a few issues with the template. Currently I am working on a few freelance websites.
