As a personal project I wanted to put together a small level of an action adventure FPS that could be a stand alone to put up as a show piece. I found that a program called FPS creator was a perfect choice for this, at first I was a bit worried that it maybe too limited or not in depth enough but I think on inspection its like any other editor, easy to make a level but hard to make a good level.

As a bit of an extra I am going to talk about some areas of the preperation work and the layout as I go, hopefully it may prove usefuls to people intrested in developing their own levels.

Before I began, I drew up some rough plans for the level to work out where enemy's, pick ups, obstacles and NPC's  where going and the overall shape of the level. This helps you get the idea down before wasting lots of time chopping and changing the design and getting into a mess.

Below is a sketch of the base of the level and then an image of the base level within the game editor. One of the most useful features of the editor and because the way of how the engine works is that it is pretty easy to switch up and down between building layers. Its a mixed blessing as this methord does limit what can be built a little, but then you have to get creative. Wink
